Week 5 · Fri Oct 30 · Midterm

Midterm week
— no class

There is no lecture and nothing new to learn this week. The midterm covers Weeks 1–4; use the week to consolidate what you have already built.

Midterm · Weeks 1–4 No lecture Live block still runs: season week 5
What it covers

Weeks 1–4, and only those

Everything on the midterm was taught in the first four weeks. Each page below is the reference for its week — re-read it, re-run its widgets, and answer its check-yourself questions without looking.

Week 1
UML & Object-Oriented Programming
The four pillars, abstract base classes, and reading and drawing class diagrams.
Week 2
Concurrency & Async in Python
The event loop, tasks and blocking calls; threads, processes and the GIL.
Week 3
Socket Streaming & Protocols
OSI layers, TCP vs UDP, framing, FIX / ITCH / OUCH and the arena’s WebSocket contract.
Week 4
Backtesting and Its Data
What a backtest is for, where tick data lives, logical vs real time, and an honest backtester.
How to prepare

Revise what you built, not something new

The arena

The graded live block still runs that evening

The season does not pause for the midterm. On Fri Oct 30 the graded live block starts at about 20:00 CT: a 10-minute pre-open (rules and event calendar published, market closed), then the market opens at 20:10, for 60 minutes in total, under the season week-5 risk rules. Have your bot connected and green before 20:10.
